Why does a pet sometimes smell specifically? What can help neutralise the smell?

Tips

Cats and dogs are the most popular pets that most of us treat as full family members. Unfortunately, in various situations these pets happen to emit a specific and unpleasant smell. What is the reason for that, and what methods of removing animal odour should we try? Find out thanks to our article.

Strong dog smell - where does it come from? Dog odour neutraliser

A dog may smell more intensely when its coat gets wet, for example, when walking in the rain. The mixture of mud and moisture makes the scent that fills the air strongly perceptible and not very pleasant. The problem of a dog's intense smell is sometimes also caused by an improper diet rich in too much protein. If your pet smells, it can be a sign of a disease, especially in the case of older dogs which are more likely to fall ill. It is worth consulting a veterinarian, especially if you notice other disturbing symptoms, such as excessive scratching, butt-scoot, pissing, apathy. The source of the problem may also be improper care of the pet (e.g. the lack of regular baths or cleaning the ears).

It is good to start removing the smell of pets with a thorough cleaning in the house. You should wash the bedding, blankets, lairs and carpets your dog likes to rest on. Then, it is worth ventilating the rooms at home (we recommend to do this a few times a day, e.g. in the morning and in the evening). Another good solution is the use of special candles for animals, which eliminate unpleasant odours, exuding a pleasant scent in the interiors. Dog odour neutralisers in the form of a candle are friendly to all household members, leave a pleasant aroma and ensure fantastic relaxation. Importantly, they do not make life difficult for pets, unlike many chemical absorbers of animal odours. Our Mascota dog candles are made of 100% natural soy wax, have a wooden wick, do not contain phthalates, parabens, dyes and are manufactured in Poland.

Intense cat smell – the causes of unpleasant odour. Cat odour neutraliser

A bad cat smell can be a sign of health problems, such as urinary tract infections. An unpleasant odour from the mouth often signals digestive problems or periodontal diseases. Repulsive odour may indicate that the pet was rolling somewhere, especially if you can see with the naked eye that the fur, shiny so far, is dirty in many places. In the event of an "intruder" appearing in the house, the cat may mark the area with an excretion which consists of a mixture of urine and cat pheromones.

How to solve the problem of unpleasant odour? If you suspect a cat's, or dog's, health problem, do not delay an appointment with a veterinarian. As in the case of a dog, it is worth thoroughly cleaning the house, cleaning the cat's lairs and airing the rooms. Our scented candles with a wooden wick, which neutralise the smell of animals, will work perfectly here as well. It is important that these natural products burn for at least 2 hours.
